that continue the traditions of the past.”
– Bill Brewer, AQHA Executive Director
Thank you for your interest in the S Ranch. Here in Montana, we raise what many believe are
some of the best working ranch horses in the country. Our family
has been breeding and using American Quarter Horses for over 60 years in
both Montana and
Texas. Recent S Ranch foundation stallions
have included Paddys Irish Whiskey (an own son of Peppy San Badger who
now stands at the 6666's in Texas), Doc O Dynamite (an own son of Doc O
Lena and an Equi-stat all-time leading sire), Master Merada (an own son
of Freckles Merada), and Boonsmals Colonel (an own son of Peptoboonsmal).
These stallions have sired quality horses with outstanding athleticism
and great minds. S Ranch foals have achieved success as cutting
horses, working cow horses, reining horses (including
Can Can Lena - who can forget this 2003 groundbreaking performance),
barrel racing horses, roping horses, and of course as all-around working
ranch horses.
What is unique about S Ranch horses is that they are
used and proven on the ranch before they are considered for breeding
stock. Though the S Ranch prides itself on having proven genetics and
bloodlines in its horses, it is our philosophy that a horse’s quality
must extend beyond its papers and out into the field. All of the S
Ranch’s brood mares are broke and ridden as ranch or
performance horses before they are considered for breeding.
Beyond horses, our primary business on the S Ranch is
commercial black angus cattle. We run approximately 5,000 head
year round on over 200,000 acres between Pryor and
St. Xavier, Montana. S Ranch horses play a huge role in
accomplishing the work needed in running a working cattle ranch. Our
horses are indispensible tools that we stake not only our reputation on,
but our livelihood as well. We sure hope you enjoy and appreciate
them as much as we do.
